I’m thrilled to have you here as I embark on an exciting journey towards sustainable and self-sufficient living. My dream has always been to start a homestead, but due to budget constraints, I’m beginning this adventure on my rooftop. This blog will document my experiences, challenges, and successes as I learn and prepare for a future homestead. I hope to share valuable tips and insights with those of you who are also interested in starting a homestead or a backyard garden. I will have challenges or side quests for my self to help me prepare for the tough journey of having my own land and homestead.

Why I Started This Blog

The idea of living sustainably and being self-sufficient has always fascinated me. While I may not have the funds to start a full-scale homestead right now, my rooftop provides the perfect space to begin learning and experimenting. By sharing my journey, I aim to help others who are in a similar situation or who simply want to follow along and learn from my experiences. This will help me study how we can use urban areas to generate food or even just help the environment a little by adding some greenery in the concrete jungles.

I know there are a lot of people who have done tons of research on this topic and have very useful insights and I wish to gather the knowledge available online and compile in my blog somehow.

My Experience with Animals and Plants

I’ve had the pleasure of keeping chickens, rabbits, and a variety of birds such as doves and finches. Additionally, I’ve grown pearl millet to feed my animals. In this blog, I’ll be focusing on keeping chickens, rabbits, and quail, as they are well-suited for small spaces. I’ll also be growing food plants like tomatoes, potatoes, and okra, and sharing my tips and tricks for successful gardening. I will be starting with the basics and easiest plants and crops for beginners. I will only be using pots and planters to grow everything.

The main reason is to document my journey of learning to create a homestead and also understand what is a homestead. This blog is for beginners who want to understand what it takes to start a backyard garden or a small homestead. Whether you’re looking to grow your own food, keep a few animals, or simply follow along with my journey, there’s something here for everyone. My goal is to create a friendly and engaging space where we can learn and grow together. I hope I am able to inspire more people to start working on their dreams and use what they have instead of waiting for what they need.
